This collection includes 36 antique stereoview images which represent the first known catalogue of Anglo-Boer war stereographic images produced by Underwood and Underwood Publishing Group.
News photographers and journalists, along with the photographers from Underwood and Underwood traveled to South Africa to cover the Anglo-Boer war. Most of the images produced during this period show military related activities in the region rather than overly graphic or gory images of war.
Underwood and Underwood produced sets of stereoscopic images of the Anglo-Boer war and offered them to customers housed in boxes designed to look like a single volume or pair of books entitled “The South African War Through the Stereoscope”. This collection sold at auction is presented in one such original box.
