This first edition, first printing of John Steinbeck’s novel “Cannery Row” was published 1945. It is presented in its original dust jacket.
A story set in the Monterey, California area so frequented by Steinbeck’s stories, “Cannery Row” is set during the Great Depression and focuses on street lined with sardine canneries, hence the title. Steinbeck was inspired by Monterey’s real-life location Ocean View Avenue, and due to the popularity of the book, the road was renamed “Cannery Row”.
Copies of “Cannery Row” can sell at auction in quite a wide price range, depending upon edition, condition and completeness. Editions signed by John Steinbeck have sold in the $2,000 – $5,500 range – again, dependent upon several factors.
