This is a truly marvelous fine and signed copy of Margaret Mitchell’s story of the Old South that was adapted into the 1939 film classic starring Vivien Leigh and Clark Gable, winner of eight Academy Awards.
We sold this 1936 first edition, first printing copy of “Gone With the Wind” presented in its original first state dust jacket at auction for $7,380.
The dust jacket retains its original $3.00 purchase price to the flap and is not price-clipped. The back of dust jacket lists other books offered by the publisher and includes “Gone With the Wind” in the right column.
Additionally, the book is boldly signed in fountain pen by author Margaret Mitchell. Upon her great success with “Gone With the Wind”, Mitchell quickly developed an intense dislike for signing her books and made her displeasure well known.
This first edition was printed in June but shows the May, 1936 publication date error (New York: The Macmillan Company).
One of the most important and beloved novels of the 20th century.
