This piece was consigned to auction from Broadway’s Shubert family and has an interesting history. During their many overseas trips to London and other parts of Europe, the Shubert brothers frequented London’s luxurious Savoy Hotel. There, they had special use of the luxury suite #616 which was accessed by this original room key.
The fob is marked Savoy Hotel, London, and measures approximately 3” inches long. It is marked for hotel room #616 on the reverse. The original room key hangs from the fob, also marked #616.
Just a couple of doors away from the Shubert’s suite is room #618, famed as the location from which Monet viewed Waterloo Bridge and sketched it from his room, now named after him.
