This extremely rare linenbacked original c1900 photograph depicts a “first size” steam fire engine manufactured by the American Fire Engine Company, Seneca Falls, Yew York.
The American Fire Engine Company was formed in 1891 and created various types of engines, first being the “Columbian” that was designed for fire stations of large cities. Around 1898 the “Metropolitan” model appeared, which would go on to become the company’s best selling engine. American Fire Engine Co. later merged with other manufacturers to form the International Fire Engine Company.
