1825 Monuments français inédits pour servir à l’histoire des arts

May 17, 2014 | 19th Century, Blog, Books

Monuments français inédits: pour servir à l’histoire des arts, des costumes civils et militaires, armes et armures, instrumens de musique, meubles de toute espèce, et décorations intérieures et extérieures des maisons

Translated: “French Monuments Unpublished: to serve as a history of the arts, domestic and external civilian and military costumes, weapons and armor, musical instruments, furniture of any species, and decorations houses”

This First Edition oversize folio contains a total of 247 plates of which 146 are finely hand coloured – these plates rank among the finest hand colouring we have ever encountered. 41 of these plates are partially hand colored and 24 are also amazingly illuminated. The folio features beautiful renderings of French decorative art including depictions of weapons, furniture, musical instruments, costumes and architecture.

A truly beautiful collection, and based on our research, contains the highest count of hand coloured plates of any copy sold at auction in a very long time.
